Many larger-space gardeners with productive plots find traditional heap or bay systems too slow and too time consuming. The HOTBIN Mega offers a faster, tidier and more efficient way to manage high waste volumes year-round and it's been designed for large green spaces.

The HOTBIN Mega (700L) is the largest composter in our range and can handle up to 40–50kg of waste a week, that’s roughly a full wheelbarrow’s worth. That includes grass clippings, border trimmings, veg waste from your raised beds and greenhouse, and even tougher woody prunings when chopped. Composting Considerations

  • Do I Need More Than 1 HOTBIN Mega?

    If you're composting intensively year-round, two HOTBIN Mega (700L) units could give you better flow and flexibility allowing one bin to rest and mature while the other is being actively filled. Think of it like a hot version of your bay system, just faster and fully enclosed.

    You could also consider starting with a single HOTBIN Mega 450 and then using the Expansion Kit (which adds a further 250L capacity) to scale up gradually depending on your waste inputs.

  • Concerned About Rodents or Wildlife?

    While no compost bin is entirely rodent-proof, the HOTBIN Mega is a sealed unit with an interlocking lid, base and odour filter, designed to reduce smells that might attract wildlife. Many users report far fewer issues with vermin compared to open systems. However, if you're near woodland or have known activity from wildlife or vermin, we recommend:

    • Placing your HOTBIN on a solid base like gravel or slabs in an active area of the garden
    • Keeping the exterior clean and free of spills
    • Not adding food waste if wildlife pressure is high, which you’re already doing!
