Did You Know?

  • FOOD WASTE GOING TO WASTE

According to Wrap, latest research states that in 2021/22 a staggering 6.4 million tonnes of food waste worth £17bn was created. That is a staggering 95kg of waste worth £250 on average per person. That’s approximately the same weight as four fully grown bull dogs! Let's reduce that even further!

  • campaign for composting

Shockingly, it is estimated by Wrap that only 3% of food waste is home composted. It's such as waste when those valuable materials can be recycled at home into peat-free compost. We are on a mission at HOTBIN to get everyone composting and reduce avoidable food waste!

  • HOTBIN COMPOSTS A MINIMUM OF 260kg

Did you know that a typical HOTBIN (200 litre) user composts a minimum of 260kg of food and garden waste every year? With an average 40l bag of compost weighing around 20kg, imagine turning all your waste into wonderful peat-free compost!

Sustainable Peat-Free Living

Home composting is great for the environment. Don’t let food and garden waste - go to waste! Turn it into homemade peat-free compost and create a sustainable cycle of recycling unavoidable waste into black gold to grow delicious produce and improve soil structure in your green space.

The benefits of home composting are numerous; helping to protect peat-bogs, less reliance on kerbside waste collections, fewer trips to the garden centre to buy compost,
reduced non-recyclable compost bag wastage and fewer disappointments with bagged peat-free compost mixes.

Sustainable Design

Composting is a natural process and so is composting with the HOTBIN! Hot Composting temperatures of 40-60°c are achieved naturally as bacteria breakdown waste and produce heat as a by-product of decomposition.

HOTBIN cleverly insulates the heat, locking it in like a giant thermal flask - so you don’t need to plug it in!

Sustainable Materials

HOTBIN is made from a resource-efficient fully recyclable material called ARPRO, known more commonly as expanded polypropylene (EPP). HOTBIN consists of just 4% raw material and 96% air!

No CFC's or HCFC's are used during manufacturing, just steam and water.

EPP often gets mistaken for polystyrene because it is a similar material manufactured in a similar manner, ie the raw plastic is made into beads (each containing air) and then the beads expand when they are moulded under pressure into the HOTBIN shape. EPP is more durable that EPS and is
used across a range of industries including Automotive, Aerospace and HVAC.

Sustainable Deliveries

HOTBIN Composting is helping to reduce miles travelled by manufacturing and supplying HOTBIN is proud to be a UK manufacturer. We ship direct from our site in Spennymoor and our direct-to-consumer deliveries are carbon
neutral with thanks to our delivery partner, DPD.

HOTBIN are also working towards sustainable packaging and our first step is that the HOTBIN is shipped in a carboard box which can either chopped up and used as part of the HOTBIN Composting process or it can also be recycled.
